Vishakha Part 1.pdf

Vishaka (Part 1) is an illustrated Buddhist comic book in English detailing the life story and background of the foremost female lay disciple, Visakha Maha Upasika.

This volume begins in the city of Bhaddiya within the kingdom of Anga, introducing the wealthy household of the treasurer Mendaka and the birth of Visakha to Dhananjaya and Sumanadevi. It illustrates Visakha’s early attainment of Sotapanna at the age of seven upon hearing the Dhamma from the Buddha, King Pasenadi of Kosala’s request to King Bimbisara for a wealthy family to settle in Kosala, and the subsequent migration of Dhananjaya’s family.

Presented in comic strip / graphic novel format with detailed illustrations, this first part concludes with accounts of Visakha’s past meritorious deeds during the era of Buddha Kassapa.
