සංස්කෘත ශබ්දමාලාව (The Sanskrit Śabdamālā or Declensions of Sanskrit Nouns) යනු සංස්කෘත භාෂාව හදාරන ආධුනිකයන් උදෙසා නාම පද වරනැගිලි ක්‍රම විස්තර කරමින් සම්පාදනය කරන ලද ප්‍රාමාණික ව්‍යාකරණ ග්‍රන්ථයකි. මෙය පෑලියගොඩ විද්‍යාලංකාර පිරිවෙනේ නිර්මාතෘ අතිපූජ්‍ය රත්මලානේ ශ්‍රී ධර්මාලෝක නාහිමිපාණන් සහ උන්වහන්සේගේ ප්‍රධාන ශිෂ්‍ය රත්මලානේ ශ්‍රී ධර්මාරාම නාහිමිපාණන් විසින් සම්පාදනය කර ඇත.

පෙර කල ‘සත්‍යසමුච්චය’ නම් සඟරාව ඔස්සේ පළකෙරුණු පාණිනී, චාන්ද්‍ර, සාරස්වත, මුග්ධබෝධාදී ව්‍යාකරණ ග්‍රන්ථයන්හි ක්‍රමවේද ඇසුරින් සකස් වූ මෙම කෘතිය, එකල ලක්දිව ආණ්ඩුකාර ධුරය දැරූ ශ්‍රීමත් විලියම් හෙන්රි ග්‍රෙගරි (Sir W. H. Gregory) උතුමාණන් වෙත විශේෂ අවසරයෙන් කැප කර ඇත. වෛද්‍ය, ජ්‍යොතිෂ, ඡන්දස්, අලංකාරාදී ප්‍රචීන ශාස්ත්‍ර හැදෑරීමට පිවිසෙන්නන්ට නාම විභක්ති රූප මනාව අවබෝධ කරගැනීම සඳහා මෙම ශබ්දමාලාව මූලික අත්පොතක් ලෙස සැකසී තිබේ.

මෙම කෘතිය කොළඹ ධර්මපාරායණ සමිතියේ ලේකම් එන්. එස්. ප්‍රනාන්දු (N. S. Fernando) මහතාගේ ප්‍රකාශනයෙන් 1876 වසරේදී ශාස්ත්‍රාලෝක මුද්‍රණාලයේදී මුද්‍රණය කර ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කර ඇත.

සාංස්කෘත ව්‍යාකරණ උගන්නා කැමැත්තන්ගේ සුඛාවබොධය පිණිස “සත්‍යසමුච්චය” නම් ප්‍රකරණයෙහි ඉතා පැහැදිලිලෙස සාංස්කෘත ව්‍යාකරණවිධිද, කර්තෘකර්ම ක්‍රියාලක්‍ෂණ හා පාණිනී සූත්‍රවාර්තතික ක්‍රමයෙන් වියත් කරණලද කාරක විපය්‍යර්‍යාස සහිතවූ ‘පදමඤ්ජරී’ අර්ථව්‍යාඛ්‍යානයද, විභක්ති රූප දැනගන්නා පිණිස ශබ්ද වරනගන ක්‍රමයද, මසක් පාසා ප්‍රසිඬකළ නමුත් එය නිසියාවට නොපැමිණි අඬාලවැ නැවතී තිබෙනබැවින් තිබෙනබැවින් මෙහි අන්තස්කරණ අප ආදි බොහෝදෙනෙකුගේ ආරාධනාවෙන් ලොකානුකම්පාවෙන්ම එම “සත්‍යසමුච්චය”ද සැදූන්නාවූ-පෑලියගොඩ විද්‍යාලංකාර ශාස්ත්‍රශාලාවේ ආචාය්‍යර්‍ය්‍යපදප්‍රාප්ත රත්මලානේ පුරාණවිහාරාධිවාසී පණ්ඩිතාචාර්‍ය්‍ය රත්මලානේ ධර්මාලොක ස්වාමිපාදයන්වහන්සේ සහ තච්ඡිෂ්‍යවූ-ධම්මාරාම ස්වාමීන් විසින්ද, සංස්කෘත උගන්නා කැමැත්තන්ට ශුඬවූ සම්පූර්ණවූ සාංස්කෘත ශබ්දමාලාවක් නොහොත් වරනැගිල්ලක් සපයාගැණීමට නැති බැවින්-පාණිනීය, චාන්ද්‍ර, සාරස්වත, මුග්ධබොධාදි ව්‍යාකරණ ග්‍රන්ථයන් මනා ලෙස අවලොකනය කොට අතිසංක්‍ෂෙප අති විස්තර හැර ග්‍රහණධාරණයට පහසු පරිද්දෙන් කරණලද මෙම “සංස්කෘත ශබ්දමාලාව” වෛද්‍ය නක්‍ෂත්‍ර ව්‍යාකරණ ඡන්දොලංකාරාදි ශාස්ත්‍ර ඉගැණීමට ප්‍රථමභාගයෙහි පුහුණුකටයුතුවූ පොතක්බැවින් මෙහිපහත අන්තස්කරණ අපවිසින් ලෝවැඩසදහා අච්චුගස්වනලදී—මෙසමග සාදනලද සංස්කෘත ආඛ්‍යාත වරනැගිල්ල පොත මහත්වනබැවින් මෙවරට අච්චුනොගැස්වූ නුමුත් අප්‍රමාදව අච්චුගස්වනබව දනවනුයි—

PREFACE.

Sanskrit Grammar, including the Active and Passive Voices of Verbs together with a paraphrase of Pada Manjari according to the Sutras or Rules of Panini and expositions thereof as also declensions of Nouns were published in a Monthly Periodical entitled the Satya Samuchchaya for the use of those who were anxious to study the Sanskrit language.

The Periodical however was obliged to be discontinued before the whole of what was intended to be placed before the beginner was published. Nevertheless at the request of the undersigned and many others, the learned Pandit the Revd. RATMALANE DHARMALOKA TERUNNANSE, Master of Vidyalankara College at Peliyagoda and his Pupil the Revd. DHARMARAMA UNNANSE under whose kind patronage the Satya Samuchchaya was conducted, conducted, have since composed the Sabdamala with the same object. The Authors have carefully consulted Paniniya, Chandra, Sarasvata, Mugdhabodha and other works on Grammar and have composed the above without being either too abstruse or too elaborate, but in a manner easy of acquisition. And as a complete and correct work on the Sanskrit Declensions in Sinhalese is not procurable, which is a Sine qua non for those who are entering on the study of Medicine, Astronomy, Grammar, Prosody Rhetoric &c. we the undersigned have published the same for the benefit of the world.

The part on Sanskrit Conjugations which is composed in like manner but was not printed, to prevent the work being too bulky, will also be published without delay.

The following is a Sanskrit composition named Muktaka Kavya composed in Sardulawikridita Tune, praying Providencial assistance to Her, Most Excellent Majesty Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland and to His Excellency the Governor of the Island of Ceylon.
