අභිධර්ම ප්‍රකාශය යනු අනුරුද්ධ මහා ස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේ විසින් රචිත අභිධර්මාර්ථ සංග්‍රහය පදනම් කරගෙන, අටුවා, ටීකා, අනුටීකා, මධුටීකා, ගණ්ඨිපද සහ බුරුම ග්‍රන්ථයන්හි එන ගැඹුරු විවරණ ඇසුරින් මොරටුවේ ත්‍රිපිටකෝදය පිරිවෙනාධිපති පණ්ඩිත දොඩම්පහල කවිධජ හිමියන් විසින් සම්පාදිත අගනා අභිධර්ම ග්‍රන්ථයකි.

මෙහි අභිධර්ම විභාගයන්, චිත්ත-චෛතසික ධර්මයන්ගේ විස්තර මෙන්ම පාලි පාඨ හා විවරණ සිංහල අරුත් සහිතව සවිස්තරව පහදා දී ඇත. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අභිධර්මය හදාරන භික්ෂු-ගිහි දෙපක්ෂයටම පරිපූර්ණ ප්‍රයෝජනයක් සැලසීම මෙම කෘතියේ අරමුණයි.

මෙම කෘතිය බු.ව. 2483 (ක්‍රි.ව. 1939) දී බොගල පතල් හිමිකරුවකු වූ ඊ. පී. ඒ. ප්‍රනාන්දු (E. P. A. Fernando) මහතාගේ ධන පරිත්‍යාගයෙන් ධර්මදානයක් වශයෙන් මුද්‍රණය කරවා ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කර ඇත.

PREFACE.

The “Abhidharma-prakasa” or “Elucidation of Philosophy” is a Sinhalese treatise compiled by us after much research work in the Commentaries, Sub-Commentaries, Glossaries and other exegetical works, on the “Abhidharmarthasangraha” or Compendium of Philosophy” composed by the Ven. Anuruddha Maha Thero, at the time when he was living in the Mula Monastery built by the Minister Mula and also in the Monastery built by Queen Soma, the Consort of King Vattagamini Abhaya of Anuradhapura.

We have consulted not only books in Ceylon but also various authoritative Burmese compilations dealing with the “Compendium of Philosophy”, which is held in high honour and respect by the whole Buddhist world and also by all students and teachers of deep philosophy.

Although there are many commentaries of the “Compendium of Philosopy” in Pali and in other foreign languages yet there is no Sinhalese book available to students of Buddhist philosophy in Ceylon. We have therefore compiled the “Abhidharmaprakasa” or “Elucidation of Philosophy” for the benefit of both laymen and monks who are in need of such a book for the advancement of their knowledge in Philosophy.

We were encouraged in the compilation of this book by Mr. W. P. Medis of Indibedda, and we must be extremely thankful and grateful to Mr E. P. A. Fernando of Colombo, without whose generosity this book would never have seen the light of day. Mr Fernando, who is one of the owners of the famous Bogala plumbago mine, decided to spend a portion of his well-earned wealth for the publication of this book. His philanthropy and liberality have been of inestimable benefit to the promotion of the study of the Buddhist religion.

May Mr. E. P. A. Fernando who financed the publication of the “Elucidation of Philosophy”, enjoy the blessings of the Triple Gem and also the blessings of such Gods as Indra Upendra Chandrasekhara and Prajapati.

May he be free from all dangers and obstacles to progress and may he advance forward in both material and spiritual well-being.

When I was asked whether I would finance the publication of the “Elucidation of Philosophy” compiled by the Ven Pandit Dodanpahala Kavidhaja, Principal, Tripitakodaya Pirivena, Moratuwa, I did not think of any material gain or personal glory that would come to me if I under-took the task. I supplied the money for the publication of this valuable book because the all-knowing Buddha has taught us that the “Gift of the Truth is the Greatest Gift.”

May the merit I have thus obtained be shared by the following:- The late Mr. M Arnolis Fernando, my father; the late Mrs. Anjala Fernando, my mother; the late Mr. James Alfred Fernando, my beloved brother. The late Mr. Jacob Abraham Fernando and Mrs Metilda Fernando, beloved sister and brother-in-law; and the late beloved brother in law Mr. B. Don Hendrick.

ශ්‍රීමත් සම්මා සම්බුදු බුදුහිමිතුන්ගේ සම්භාව්‍යතාවට හා පරමාර්ථ ධර්ම රසාස්වාදනාභිලාෂීන්ගේ පරිශීලනයට පාත්‍ර වූද අනුරාධපුරයෙහි මූල මහා විහාරයෙහි අග්‍රමහේශිකාව වූ සෝමා බිසව විසින් කරවන ලද විහාරයද මූලනාථ අමාත්‍යයා විසින් කරවන ලද මූලනාථ විහාරය ද යන විහාරද්වය නිබද්ධ වාසස්ථානකොට වෙසෙන කල්හි (මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ආචාර්‍ය්‍ය මත භේද ඇත්තාය.) තේනනම බෞද්ධෝපාසකයන්ගේ ආයාචනයෙන් අනුරුද්ධචාර්‍ය්‍ය මහාස්වාමින් විසින් විරචිත අභිධර්මාර්ථ සංග්‍රහ නම් ප්‍රකරණය පිළිබඳවැ පාළි, අභිනවටීකා, ටීකා, අනුටීකා, මධුටීකා, ගණ්ඨි පදගත විස්තරය හා බුරුම භාෂාවෙන් ලියන ලද ග්‍රන්ථාගත විස්තරයද ප්‍රකාශකරණ බැවින් “අභිධර්ම ප්‍රකාශය” නම් ලද මෙම සිංහල අභිධර්ම ග්‍රන්ථය අප විසින් සම්පාදනය කරණ ලදී.

භදන්තා ශ්‍රී අනුරුද්ධාචාර්‍ය්‍ය මහාස්වාමින් විසින් විරචිත අභිධර්මාර්ථ සංග්‍රහය නාමරූප පරිච්ඡේදය පරමාර්ථ විනිශ්චය යන ග්‍රන්ථ ලක්දිව ප්‍රචලිතයහ. එයින් අභිධර්මාර්ථ සංග්‍රහය සර්වදේශ ප්‍රදේශයන්හි අභිධර්ම මධුපායී ශිෂ්‍ය ශික්ෂක යන උභය පක්ෂය විසින්ම අත්‍යන්ත ගෞරවයෙන් පරිශීලනය කරනු ලැබේ.

මෙම ග්‍රන්ථ රත්නයට විදේශයන්හි මාගධ භාෂාවෙන් හා ඒ ඒ දේශීය භාෂාවන්ගෙන්ද ප්‍රතිපාදිත පරිවාර ග්‍රන්ථ බොහෝ වෙති. එහෙත් ලක්දිවැ ඇත්තේ පුරාණ ටීකාවන් අභිධර්මාර්ථ සංග්‍රහ සන්නයත් සංක්ෂෙප වණ්ණනාවත් විභාවිනීටීකාවත් පමණකි. මෙසේ පාළි ග්‍රන්ථ මණ්ඩපයක් ඇතත් පරමාර්ථ ධර්මඥානය දියුණු කරගැනීමට තරම් සිංහල භාෂාවෙන් සවිස්තර ග්‍රන්ථයක් නොලියැවිනි හේ පරමාර්ථ ධර්ම රසික ලෞකික ශාසනප්‍රවෘත්ත ජනතාවට ලොකු පාඩුවකි. ඒ පාඩුව පිරිමසා ලන අභිප්‍රායෙන් මෙම ග්‍රන්ථය සිංහල භාෂාවෙන් සම්පාදනය කෙළෙමි.
