සමන්තපාසාදිකා නාම විනයට්ඨකථා (තතියෝ භාගො) යනු භදන්තාචරිය බුද්ධඝෝෂ මහාස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේ විසින් සම්පාදිත විනය පිටක අටුවාවෙහි තෙවන වෙළුමයි. මෙම ග්‍රන්ථය සයිමන් හේවාවිතාරණ ධර්ම පුස්තක මාලාවේ 46 වන වෙළුම ලෙස (Vol. XLVI) පළමු වරට ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලදී.

මෙම කෘතිය කොළඹ මාළිගාකන්දේ විද්‍යෝදය පිරිවෙනේ ආචාර්ය වැලිවිටියේ පේමරතන ස්ථවිරයන් විසින් සංශෝධනය කර ඇති අතර, විද්‍යෝදය පරිවේණ උපප්‍රධානාචාර්ය රාජකීය පණ්ඩිත වැලිවිටියේ සෝරත නායක ස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේ විසින් අවසාන සංශෝධනය සිදු කරන ලදී.

මෙහි විනය මහාවග්ග පාලියට අයත් ප්‍රධාන ඛන්ධකයන් පිළිබඳ අටුවා විවරණ ඇතුළත් වේ:

මෙම තුන්වන මුද්‍රණය සෝමාවතී හේවාවිතාරණ භාරකාර මණ්ඩලය (Somawati Hewavitarane Trust) මඟින් 2015 වර්ෂයේදී ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කර ඇති අතර මුද්‍රණය සමයවර්ධන ප්‍රින්ටර්ස් සමාගම මඟින් නිමවා ඇත.

PREFATORY NOTE.

With the publication of the Samantapāsādikā Part 3, the Commentary to the Vinaya Piṭaka, we have great pleasure in placing before the Public the 46th Volume of the Simon Hewavitarne Bequest Series. The editing of this book has been done by the Ven’ble Welivitiye Pemaratana Thero, of the tutorial staff of the Vidyodaya Pirivena, Maligakanda, Colombo, and has been finally revised by the Ven’ble Pandit Welivitiye Sorata Nāyaka Thero, the Vice-Principal of the same Pirivena.

We convey our sincere gratitude to the Ven’ble Theras and it is our intention to bring out, in the course of 1946, the last Part of the Samantapāsādikā with the index which is being edited by the same Ven’ble Theras. This will complete the Commentary to the Vinaya Piṭaka.

We have to record with deep sorrow the passing away of the Ven’ble Lunupokuṇe Dhammakitti Siri Dhammānanda Nāyaka Thero, (D. Lit ) Principal of the Vidyālaṅkāra Pirivena, Peliyagoda, Kelaniya. His demise is an irreparable loss to the Buddhist world in general and in particular to the Buddhists of Ceylon at a time when his services were very necessary. He was one of the greatest supporters of these publications and was one who edited many of the Volumes that have already been published from the inception of this series. The late Ven’ble Lunupokuṇe Dhammakitti Siri Dhammānanda Nāyaka Thero edited the Manorathapūranī, the Commentary to the Aṅguttara Nikāya, Parts 1 & 2, and was editing the Papañcasūdanī, the Commentary to the Majjhima Nikāya but was not able to complete the 3rd Part during his life time. This part of the Papañcasūdanī, now being edited by Ven’ble Kiriwattuduwe Paññāsāra Nāyaka Thero, Principal of Vidyalaṅkāra Pirivena and Ven’ble Kosgoda Pandita Dhammawansa Thero will also be published this year and will complete the Commentary to the Majjhima Nikāya.

On the 17th January 1946 falls the 33rd anniversary of the death of our dear uncle, the late Mr. Simon Hewavitarne, the Founder of this Bequest. May he attain Nibbana by the great merit gained by his noble work.

PUBLISHERS NOTE

The late Mr. SIMON ALEXANDER HEWAVITARANE, who in his life time had begun to publish the TRIPITAKA, left a bequest for its completion after his death. He died suddenly on 17th January 1913 and in accordance with his wishes his Trustees had published the Commentaries on the Text in 49 volumes. After seventy years these books are no longer readily available.

His widow Mrs. SOMAWATI HEWAVITARANE who passed away on 10th January 1982 at the age of 94, had prior to her death, created the SOMAWATI HEWAVITARANE TRUST to carry on the good work started by her late husband and bequeathed her entire estate to this Trust.

We the Trustees of the Somawati Hewavitarane Trust, having seen the need to re-print the Commentaries, have undertaken this task to help both the student and teacher of the Dhamma and in the hope that this act of ours will help to preserve the Noble Teachings of the Blessed One for the benefit of the future generations and thereby prolong the life of the Buddha Sasana by many more thousands of years.

May the fruits of this meritorious act help the late Simon Alexander Hewavitarane and Somawati Hewavitarane Maha Upasikawa in Sansara and towards their final attainment of Nibbana.
