මෙම ග්‍රන්ථය සයිමන් හේවාවිතාරණ ත්‍රිපිටක ප්‍රකාශන මාලාවේ 45 වන කාණ්ඩය (Vol. XLV) ලෙස පළ වූ සමන්තපාසාදිකා නම් වූ විනය අට්ඨකථාවේ දෙවන භාගයයි. භදන්තාචරිය බුද්ධඝෝෂ මහා ස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේ විසින් විනය පිටකයට සම්පාදනය කරන ලද අර්ථකථාව පාලි භාෂාවෙන් (සිංහල අකුරින්) මෙහි අඩංගු වේ.

විද්‍යෝදය පිරිවෙනේ ආචාර්ය වැලිවිටියේ පෙමරතන ස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේ විසින් සංස්කරණය කරන ලද මෙය, විද්‍යෝදය පිරිවෙන්පති බද්දේගම පියරතන නායක ස්ථවිර සහ උපප්‍රධානාචාර්ය වැලිවිටියේ සොරත නායක ස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේලා විසින් අවසාන ප්‍රතිශෝධනය කර ඇත. මුල් මුද්‍රණය 1945 දී ද, දෙවන මුද්‍රණය 1985 දී ද, මෙම තෙවන මුද්‍රණය බු.ව. 2544 (ක්‍රි.ව. 2000) දී සෝමාවතී හේවාවිතාරණ භාරකාර මණ්ඩලය මඟින් මාළිගාකන්දේ ත්‍රිපිටක මුද්‍රණාලයේදී මුද්‍රණය කරවන ලදී.

මෙහි ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් භික්ෂු ප්‍රාතිමෝක්ෂයේ තෙරසකණ්ඩ (සංඝාදිසේස), අනියත, නිස්සග්ගිය පාචිත්තිය සහ පාචිත්තිය ශික්ෂාපදයන්ට අදාළ අටුවා විවරණ අන්තර්ගත වේ:

• තෙරසකවණ්ණනා
• අනියතවණ්ණනා
• නිස්සග්ගියවණ්ණනා (පඨම, දුතිය, තතිය වග්ග)
• පාචිත්තියවණ්ණනා (මුසාවාද, භූතගාම, භික්ඛුනොවාද, භොජන, අචෙලක, සුරාපාන, සප්පාණක, සහධම්මික වග්ග)

PREFATORY NOTE

With the publication of the Samantapasadika, Part 2, the Commentary to the Vinaya Pitaka, we have great pleasure in placing before the Public the 45th Volume of the Simon Hewavitarne Bequest Series. The editing of this book has been done by the Ven’ble Welivitiye Pemaratana Thero, of the tutorial staff of the Vidyodaya Pirivena, Maligakande, Colombo, and has been finally revised by the Ven’ble Baddegama Piyaratana Nayaka Thero, (D. Litt.) the Principal of Vidyodaya Pirivena, and the Ven’ble Pandit Welivitiye Sorata Nayaka Thero, the Vice Principal of the same Pirivena.

We are deeply indebted to the above Ven’ble Theras for the great pains they have taken in the compilation of this Volume in spite of the pressure of work in their other duties. We beg to convey our sincere gratitude to the Ven’ble Theras.

It is our intention to bring out by the end of 1945, the 3rd Part of the Samantapasadika which is now being edited by the same Ven’ble Theras. This will complete the Commentary to the Vinaya Pitakas. We hope, at the same time, to publish the 3rd Part of the Papancasudani, which is being edited by the Ven’ble Lunupokune Dhammakitti Siri Dhammananda Nayake Thero, (D. Litt) Principal of the Vidyalankara Pirivena, Peliyagoda, Kelaniya, and this will complete the Commentary to the Majjhima Nikaya.

On the 17th January 1945 falls the 32nd anniversary of the death of our dear Uncle, the late Mr. Simon Hewavitarane, the Founder of this Bequest. May he attain Nibbana by the great merit gained by his noble work.

PUBLISHER’S NOTE

The late Mr. SIMON ALEXANDER HEWAVITARNE, who in his life time had begun to publish the TRIPITAKA, left a bequest for its completion after his death. He died suddenly on 17th January, 1913 and in accordance with his wishes his Trustees had published the Commentaries on the Text in 49 volumes. After seventy years these books are no longer readily available.

His widow Mrs. SOMAWATI HEWAVITARANE who passed away on 10th January 1982 at the age of 94, had prior to her death, created the Somawathi Hewavitarane Trust to carry on the good work started by her late husband and bequeathed her entire estate to this Trust.

We the Trustees of the Somawati Hewavitarane Trust, having seen the need to re-print the Commentaries, have undertaken this task to help both the student and teacher of the Dhamma and in the hope that this act of ours will help to preserve the Noble Teachings of the Blessed One for the benefit of the future generations and thereby prolong the life of the Buddha Sasana by many more thousands of years.

May the fruits of this meritorious act help the late Simon Alexander Hewavitarne and Somawati Hewavitarne Maha Upasikawa in Samsara and towards their final attainment of Nibbana.
