සද්ධම්මප්පකාසනී නාම පටිසම්භිදාමග්ගට්ඨකථා යනු ඛුද්දකනිකායට අයත් පටිසම්භිදාමග්ගප්පකරණය සඳහා භදන්තාචරිය මහානාම මහාස්ථවිරයන් වහන්සේ විසින් රචිත පාලි අටුවා ග්‍රන්ථයයි. සයිමන් හේවාවිතාරණ ත්‍රිපිටක ග්‍රන්ථ මාලාවේ 21 වන වෙළුම ලෙස ප්‍රකාශිත මෙම කෘතිය, සෝමාවතී හේවාවිතාරණ භාරකාර අරමුදලේ අනුග්‍රහයෙන් 2013 දී යළි මුද්‍රණය කර ඇත.

මෙම අටුවා ග්‍රන්ථයේ ශෝධන කටයුතු කෝට්ටේ ශ්‍රී පරාක්‍රමබාහු පිරිවෙන්පති මංගල ධම්මක්කිත්ති සිරි ජිනරතන නායක ස්ථවිර, මංගල ධම්මක්කිත්ති සිරි අනෝමදස්සී නායක ස්ථවිර, වැලිවිටියේ පණ්ඩිත සොරත ස්ථවිර සහ විද්‍යෝදය පරිවේණාධිපති කහවේ සිරි සුමංගල රතනසාර නායක ස්ථවිර යන වියත් හිමිවරුන් අතින් සිදු විය.

පාලි භාෂාවෙන් සිංහල අකුරින් මුද්‍රිත මෙම සංස්කරණය අවසානයේ සංවණ්ණිත පදයන් පිළිබඳ අකාරාදී අනුක්‍රමණිකාවක් ද ඇතුළත් වේ.

PUBLISHERS NOTE

The late Mr. SIMON ALEXANDER HEWAVITARANE, who in his life time had begun to publish the TRIPITAKA, left a bequest for its completion after his death. He died suddenly on 17th January 1913 and in accordance with his wishes his Trustees had published the Commentaries on the Text in 49 volumes. After seventy years these books are no longer readily available.

His widow Mrs. SOMAWATI HEWAVITARANE who passed away on 10th January 1982 at the age of 94, had prior to her death, created the SOMAWATI HEWAVITARANE TRUST to carry on the good work started by her late husband and bequeathed her entire estate to this Trust.

We the Trustees of the Somawati Hewavitarane Trust, having seen the need to re-print the Commentaries, have undertaken this task to help both the student and teacher of the Dhamma and in the hope that this act of ours will help to preserve the Noble Teachings of the Blessed One for the benefit of the future generations and thereby prolong the life of the Buddha Sasana by many more thousands of years.

May the fruits of this meritorious act help the late Simon Alexander Hewavitarane and Somawati Hewavitarane Maha Upasikawa in Sansara and towards their final attainment of Nibbana.

PREFATORY NOTE

I have much pleasure in being able to place before the public the Patisambhidā Magga Aṭṭha Kathā being the twenty-first Volume of the Simon Hewavitarne Bequest Buddhist Text Series. The Patisambhidā-magga was the work of the great Sāriputta, one of the earliest disciples of the Buddha, and the highest authority on Buddhist Dhamma. This work was handed down orally from generation to generation of Buddhist Theras until it was put into writing, in Ceylon, during the reign of King Waṭṭa Gāminī Abhaya. The Commentary was written shortly after the death of King Moggallāna son of King Dhātusena, by one Mahānāma Thero. The composer of the Mahāvaṁsa who flourished a few years before this was also a Mahānāma Thero, but he seems to have been a different person from our author.

Owing to the wars that devastated this island from time to time Buddhism suffered heavily. Many books were destroyed and copies from Siam and Burmah had to fill their place. It is mentioned in the Singhala Vimāna Vatthu that when the Siamese Nikāya was established in Ceylon, the Patisambhidā-magga and other books were brought from Siam. The Aṭṭha Kathas were probably brought from the same country.

The editing of this work had been entrusted to the late Mangala Dhammakitti Sri Jinaratana Nāyaka Théro, Principal of the Parākrama Bāhu Pirivena at Kotte. He edited a portion of the book jointly with Mangala Dhammakitti Sri Anómadassi Théro, the present the present Principal of the above Pirivena. This was the first time the book was printed and the work of revision was necessarily difficult. The remainder of the work was undertaken and completed by Weliwitiye Sórata Théro a distinguished member of the staff of the Vidyodaya Pirivena. To all of them as well as to Kahawe Sri Sumangala Ratanasāra Nāyaka Théro, the Principal of the Vidyódaya College, who went through the final proofs amidst his multifarious duties, I offer my thanks for the willing manner in which they helped to hasten the issue of this Volume so eagerly looked for by Buddhist and other Oriental Scholars.

I have eight other books of this series partly printed and some nearing completion but which are being unavoidably delayed owing to the fact that the editors are very busy men. I hope, however, to issue to the public the Commentary on the Itivuttaka in the course of the next three months.

1. සම්බුද්ධසම්ඵුල්ලමුඛම්බුජස්මිං සඤ්ජාතසද්ධම්මමධුං සුධීනං, සම්මොදයන්තං හි මනො මනොජ- සමත්තදෙසොපසමත්ථමඤ්ජු.

2. යස්ස’ඤ්ඤානොපමබුද්ධියානං යානං මුනින්දොතිහ’නතානං, ජිනො’ව යො වා’පි ජනෙසු ඤාතො ජිනොරසානං සිරසා නතො’ස්මි.

3. නානාදිලොකාතිවිසාරිකිත්ති- ත්ථෙරො’පතිස්සො’භවි සාරිපුත්තො, සද්ධම්මසෙනාපතිතං යතීන- මිතො ‘මිතොළාරගුණාභිරාමො.

23. ගණිස්සරා අට්ඨකථායිමිස්සා අපෙක්ඛිතා’සුං පරිසොධනත්ථං, එකං හි භාගං පටිසංඛරිත්වා සමෙසයුං තෙ පඨමං පහට්ඨා.

24. දිවංගතො මංගලධම්මකිත්ති උපාධියුත්තො ස ගණාධිනාථො, සංඛාරජානං ඛණභංගුරත්තං සඤ්ඤාපයන්තො න චිරෙනයෙව.

25. එකූනතිංසා ඵලකානි තෙසං මුද්දාපිතානී’හ යථෙව සුද්ධි, ඔසානභාගම්පි තථා ලිඛිත්වා අනොමදස්සීත්ථවිරො’දදාසි.

26. තතො යථාවුත්තමහාසයෙහි ආරාධිතො තස්ස විසොධනත්ථං, ඔලොකයං ස්‍යාමනරිස්සරෙන මුද්දාපිතං වාපි මහාගමස්සා.

27. ආදූයගණ්හීහි ඉතො පරෙහි විසුද්ධිමග්ගප්පහූතීහි වා’හං, සංසන්දයන්තො බහුසො විසුද්ධිං සම්පාපයිං ඤාණබලං යථා මෙ.

28. මුද්දාපිතෙස්වෙඵලකෙසු පුබ්බෙ දුට්ඨානි ඨානානි’ව යානි වා’සුං, සංසුද්ධිපත්තෙන සමෙකඛකානං තොසාය තානී’හ පදස්සිතානි.

29. එවං විසුද්ධත්තමුපාගතෙ’සා පටිග්ගහිතා ගරුනා ගරූනං, විජ්ජොදයස්සී යතිස්සරෙන ආවෙරතං මෙ සමුපාගතෙන.

30. කස්සච්චයා නෙ’හ භවන්ති ලොකෙ කො වා න සම්මොහමුපෙති සත්තො, තස්මා මයෙපෙත්ථ න සබ්බථා’පි නිද්දොසභාවං සමුදීරයාම.

31. පමාදජාතානි විවජ්ජනීය- වජ්ජානි විජ්ජන්ති යදෙත්ථ තානි, හිතාය ලොකස්ස විසොධයන්තා තුස්සන්තු සන්තෙ’ත්ථ පරිස්සමස්මිං.

32. යං පුඤ්ඤජාතං පතිවණ්ණමෙත්ථ ඉමං මයා සොධයතො’පලද්ධං, තඤ්චානුමොදිත්ව ‘ඛිලො’පි ලොකො සිවංකරො යාතු සිවං සුඛෙන.

33. විජ්ජොදයං සදයමෙත්ථ චකාර යො සො බුද්ධංකුරො සිරිසුමංගලසද්ධිනෙතා, ඛිඤ්ඤත්තමෙතු මම පාවරියුත්තමස්ස පුඤ්ඤොචුධිම්හි විපුලම්පිච පුඤ්ඤමෙතං.

34. එසං සදා සුගතසාසනවුද්ධිසිද්ධි- මුස්සාහවා ‘භවි තිපිටකසොධනෙ යො, ඤාණීස්සරො ගරුවරො ස යතීස්සරො මෙ පුඤ්ඤා’නෙන ලභතං සිවමග්ගමග්ගං.
