බොධ්‍යාහාරකුලය දේවවංශය - කවින්ද්‍ර රාජසිංහ 1931.pdf

බොධ්‍යාහාරකුලය හෙවත් දෙවවංශය මාතලේ කවීන්ද්‍ර රාජසිංහ දෙව විසින් සම්පාදිත ඓතිහාසික වංශකථා ග්‍රන්ථයකි. ගාල්ලේ එච්. ඩබ්ලිව්. වික්‍රමරත්න මහතාගේ ඉල්ලීම පරිදි ලියවුණු මෙය ගාල්ලේ ඇස්. සර්ණේලිස් මහතා විසින් කොළඹ ග්‍රන්ථප්‍රකාශ යන්ත්‍රාලයෙහි මුද්‍රණය කරවා බු. ව. 2474 (ක්‍රි. ව. 1931) දී ප්‍රසිද්ධ කරන ලදී.

සංඥාපනයට අනුව, මහාවංශාදි ඓතිහාසික ග්‍රන්ථ, ශිලාලිපි, සන්නස්, තුඩපත් හා මුඛ පරම්පරාගත ප්‍රවෘත්ති ඇසුරෙන් පෞරාණික ඓතිහාසික කරුණු හෙළි කිරීම මෙහි අරමුණයි. මහාබෝධිය ගෙන ආ බොධිගුප්ත, සුමිත්ත ආදී බොධාහාරක ශාක්‍ය කුමාර පරපුර ගැන විස්තර ඇති බැවින් ‘බොධ්‍යාහාරකුලය’ ද, සම්මුති දෙව පක්ෂයට අයත් දෙව ශාක්‍ය සිටු කුමරුන්ගේ පරම්පරාව වර්ණනා කරන හෙයින් ‘දෙවවංශය’ ද යන නම් ලැබිණි.

කල්පෝත්පත්තිය, මහා සම්මත වංශය, විජය රජු ප්‍රමුඛ සිංහල රජවරුන්ගේ ඉතිහාසය, මහින්ද මහරහතන් වහන්සේ හා දෙවනපෑතිස් රජුගේ සහායෙන් ශාසනය පිහිටුවීම, සඞ්ඝමිත්තා තෙරණිය සමඟ මහාබෝධිය ලක්දිවට පැමිණීම, ඒ සමඟ පැමිණි කුල පරම්පරා ලම්බකර්ණ, ගනවැසි, මෙහෙණිවර, ස්කන්ධාවාර, ගිරි, මෞර්‍ය්‍ය, දෙව යනාදි නම්වලින් ලක්දිව පැවත ආ අයුරු මෙහි දැක්වේ. ග්‍රන්ථය පරිච්ඡේද දහයකින් යුක්ත වේ.

ග්‍රන්ථය ආරම්භයේ කර්තෘ රචිත සංස්කෘත ශ්ලෝකමය ප්‍රස්තාවනාවක්, සිංහල සංඥාපනයක් හා ඉංග්‍රීසි Preface එකක් ඇත. මහාවංශය, ථූපවංශය, බොධිවංශය, රාජාවලිය, පූජාවලිය, සන්දේශ කාව්‍ය, ශිලා ලිපි, සන්නස්, තුඩපත් ඇතුළු මූලාශ්‍ර 33 ක ලැයිස්තුවක් ද සංඥාපනයේ දක්වා ඇත. ශිලාලිපි ආදියෙන් උපුටාගත් පාඨ වෙනස් නොකර යථාස්ථිතියෙන්ම ඇතුළත් කළ බව ද එහි සඳහන් ය.

සංඥාපනය.

“බොධ්‍යාහාරකුලය” හෙවත් “දෙවවංශය” නමින් ප්‍රතිපාදිත එතද්ග්‍රන්ථරත්නය වනාහි සම්භාවණීයතර මහාවංශාදි ඓතිහාසික ග්‍රන්ථ හා ශිලාලිපි සන්නස්’ තුඩපත්, යනාදිය හා මුඛ පරම්පරාගත සත්‍ය ප්‍රවෘත්තීන්ද ඇසුරු කිරීමෙන් පෞරාණික ශ්‍රෙෂ්ඨතර ඓතිහාසික කරුණු අනාවරණය කිරීම්වස් ජගදර්ථකාරිත්වයෙන් සම්පාදිතයි.

ශ්‍රී ලඞ්කාද්වීපය එකාලෝක කළ රාජ රජ මහාමාත්‍යාදීන්ගේ උත්පත්තියට මූලීභූත බොධිගුප්ත සුමිත්ත යනාදි බොධාහාරක ශාක්‍යකුමාර පරපුර පිළිබඳවූ මෙහි දීඝ විස්තර යක් ඇති බැවින් මහාවංශයෙහි:--

“යානිසෙට්ඨි කුලානට්ඨ-මහාබොධි මිධාහරුං බොධාහාර කුලානීති-තානිතෙන පවුච්චරෙ”

යන්නෙන් නිදර්ශිත ගාථාර්ථයටත් එකඟව ඒ මේ ග්‍රන්ථය තෙම අන්වර්ථ වශයෙන් බොධ්‍යහාර කුලය නමින්ද සම්මුති විශුද්ධි උත්පත්තියයි ජාතකට්ඨ කථාවෙහි කථිත ත්‍රිවිධ දෙව යන් අතුරෙහි සම්මුති පක්ෂයෙහිලා ගිණියයුතු දෙව ශාක්‍ය සිටු කුමරුන් ප්‍රමුඛකොට ඇති තත් පාරම්පරිකයන් යථා විධින් වර්ණිත හෙයින් දෙව වංශය, නමින්ද අභිහිතයි.

සවිස්තර කල්පොත්පත්තිය හා එසේම මහා සම්මත වංශය නාමපරිවර්තනයෙන් භාරත දෙශයෙහි ප්‍රචලිත ආකාරයත්, යලි, විජය මහ රජතුමා ප්‍රමුඛකොට ඇති සෛංහලීය මනුජෙන්ද්‍රයන් පිළිබඳ නාතිසංක්ෂෙප විස්තර වර්ණනාත්, මහා මහින්ද්‍රාදි ක්ෂීණාශ්‍රවයන් වහන්සේලා ලක්දිව වැඩ දෙවෙනිපෑ තිස් මහරජානන්ගේ සහායෙන් සම්‍යක් සම්බුද්ධ ශාසනය පිහිටුවා වදාළ අයුරුත්, ශ්‍රීමද්ධර්මාශොක මහරජතුමා විසින් ඒ මහාබොධීන්ද්‍ර රජයාගේ දක්ෂිණ ශාඛා තොමෝ සඞ්ඝමිත්‍රා ස්ථවිරාවන් ප්‍රධානකොට ඇති දෙව, නාග, යක්ෂ, රාක්ෂ, නර නාරීගණයා සමග එදා එවනු ලැබීමෙන් ලඞ්කොපකාර කළ සැටිත්, මහාබොධීන් වහන්සේ සමග සපැමිණි මහා කුලයන් අතුරෙන් වෙදිස නුවර දෙව නාමොපලක්ෂිත ශාක්‍ය සිටානන්ගේ පුත්‍රයන්වූද සූර්‍ය්‍ය වංශාභිජාත මහාමහින්ද්‍ර මහරහතුන් වහන්සේගේ මෑනිවූ “දෙවි” නම් කුමාරිකාවන්ගේ සහෝදර කුමාර සම්ප්‍රදාව වනාහි ලම්බකර්ණ, ගනවැසි, මෙහෙණිවර, ස්කන්ධාවාර, ගිරි, මෞර්‍ය්‍ය, දෙව යනාදි නානාවිධ නාම සමාශ්‍රයෙන් අව්‍යච්ඡින්නවැ ලක්දිව පැවත එන විධියත්, තවත් බොහෝ ඓතිහාසිය වැදගත් කාරුණුත් මෙහි අති පරිශ්‍රමයෙන් ප්‍රකාශිතයි.

මේ ග්‍රන්ථ සංස්කරණයෙහිදී පහත දක්වන පොත්පත් ආදිය විශෙෂයෙන් ආධාරවූ බැවින් ඒ වාද යථා ක්‍රමයෙන් දක්වමූ.

මෙයින් ශිලා ලිපි, සන්නස්, තුඩපත්, පුරාණ පුස්කොල ලිපි යනාදියෙන් උපුටාගත් ඒ ඒ කවි වග වාසගම් ආදියෙහි ඇතැම් තැන ව්‍යාකරණවර්ජනෙ දෝෂ ඇතත් ඒවා යථාස්ථිති වශයෙන්ම මෙහි යෝජිතයහ. මේ සකස් කිරීමේදී ග්‍රන්ථයාගේ විශාලත්වය නොව හැකිතාක් පෞරාණික කරුණුවලින් ප්‍රස්තුත වස්තු ප්‍රසිද්ධි කාරණයම අප ය පරමාර්ථයවූ බැවින් එසේ ලෝකානුකම්පා පූර්වකවූ ඓත්‍යහාසඥභිලාෂි අධුනිකයන්ගේ විජානනය සඳහාත් යථාශක්තීන් මෙය පරිපූර්ණ කොට ප්‍රචාරයට පමුණුවන්ට ලැබීම ගැණ අපි අතිශයින් සන්තොෂ වම්හ.

තවද ග්‍රන්ථ සම්පාදනය වනාහි අතිදුෂ්කයක් කාර්‍ය්‍යයක් බැව් තත් පරිශ්‍රමඥ පණ්ඩිත ප්‍රකාණ්ඩයෝ මොනවට දනිති එබැවින් මෙබඳු කෘතියෙක අක්ෂර වින්‍යාසාදි වශයෙන් හා වෙනත් නොයෙක් ක්‍රමවලින් ප්‍රමාදජාත සදොෂ ස්ථාන විද්‍යමාන වියහැකි වුවත්, එවැනි පණ්ඩිත ශ්‍රෙෂ්ඨයෝ තුමූ දියරින් කිරි වෙන්කොට ගැණීමෙහි සමත් සුවර්ණ හංශ රාජයන්මෙන් යථාස්ථානයෙහි යථාර්ථග්‍රහණයෙහි සමර්ථයෝ වෙත්මැයි. යලිදු, විශෙෂයෙන් කියයුත්තක් නම්:-

මෙම ග්‍රන්ථය නිෂ්පාදනය කිරීම පිණිස ගාල්ලේ සද්ගුණවත් එච්. ඩබ්ලිව්. වික්‍රමරත්න මහතාගේ සමාරාධනය හා මේ සත් ව්‍යාපාරයෙහිදී සර්වප්‍රකාරයෙන් අගනා උපදෙස් දීම් ආදියෙන් උපකාරිපරවශවූ ගිහි පැවිදි සියළු උතුමන්ගේත්, මුද්‍රාපනයෙහිදී නොමසුරුවූ බහු ධන පරිත්‍යාගයෙන් ක්‍රියාකළ සත්කීර්තිමත් ප්‍රභුවරයාගේත් ජාති හිතෛෂිත්වයෙන් යුක්ත විශිෂ්ට ගුණ කදම්බය නිතර අනුස්මරණය කෙරෙමින් එතුමන්ලා කෙරෙහිදු හෘදයාඞ්ගම ගෞරව සතුති පුදකරම්හ. යථා කාලයෙහි මෙය සුන්දරත්වයෙන් මුද්‍රණය කරදුන් ග්‍රන්ථ ප්‍රකාශ යන්ත්‍රාලයාධිපති මහතුන්ටද අපගේ සාදර සතුතිය නිතර හිමිවිය යුතුයි.

PREFACE

This epitome which is entitled “Boddhyahara Kulaya” or “Dewavansaya” has been composed by us following true historical facts as related in Mahavansa, the wel-known ancient Sinhalese Historical records and other historical works relating to Ceylon ,in stone inscriptions, in Sannases, in Tudapaths, and as handed down by tradition with the object of enriching the historical literature of this country.

This historical treatise is known as “Boddhyahara Kulaya” as it contains a long account regarding Princes Bodigupta, Summitta, and others of the “Bodaharaka” dynasty of Sakya Princess,. who are the ancestors of Kings and Prime Ministers, who shed lustre and glory and illumined Lanka in ancient times, and also, in accordance with the following statement of historical fact in Mahavansa to wit:—

“Yani Setti Kula Natta - Maha Bodhi Midha Harun Bodha Hara Kula Nithi - Thani Thena Pavuchchare.”

It is also called “Devawansaya” in conformity with the classification of Deva Sakya Setty of Sakya Princes under Sammuthi Deva in the threefold classification of Devas as Sammuthi, Visuddhi, and Uppaththi in the Bnddhist Birth Stories.

This work contains accounts regarding the birth of Kalpa and also in the same manner the change of names of Maha Sammata dynasty as is current in Indian legends, and a brief account of the history of King Vijaya and other Sinhalese monarchs, and the manner in which the doctrine of Lord Buddha was spread in this island by such venerable Buddhist monks, as Maha Mahinda Thero and others, with the assistance of King Devanam Piyatissa, and how Emperor Dharmasoka assisted Sri Lanka by sending to Ceylon, Priestess Sangamitta accompanied by Devas, Nagas, Yakkas, men and women, who brought the right branch of the Maha Bodhi and how the dynasty of the princes, thebrothers of Princess Devi, the mother of Maha Mahinda Thero, the sons of Deva Setty of Wetisa Principality, members of “Suriya Vansa” who also accompanied Princes Sangamitta when she brought the Maha Bodhi, has been perpetuated in Ceylon up to date under various clan names, Lamba Karna, Ganewesi, Mahanawara, Skandhavara Giri, Moriya and Deva at various stages of Ceylon History, and many other historical data.

The prose and verse passages Extracted from stone inscriptions, Sannases, and Tudapoths have been iucluded in this work without alterations although they contain some errors in Gammar and prosody.

We are happy to state that we were able to bring before the public this little brochure. Which is full of materials useful to students of history as it was our desire not to produce an unwieldy volume of useless historical inadcals.

The difficulties that authors encounter in producing books are very many, and are wellknown to all.

It is our fervent hope that though this work is not without errors and though it does not pretend to be even free from grammatical and other blunders yet the learned would pick out only useful matter ignoring such defects and faults, as the swan used, they sav, to extract milk having water behind.

We take this opportunity to offer our sincere thanks to Mr. H. W. Wickramaratne of Galle who invited me to compile this useful work and also those priests and laymen who have been of service to me in the compilation of this work and lastly to the gentleman who assisted me to put this work through the press and to the proprietors of the Granthaprakasa Press.
